The move to the higher power service was the essential move to lock in the future for the station, and has come as the result of detailed planning and submissions to the Broadcasting Authority. The station can be heard in many surrounding towns and locailities where before this was not possible.

Brief History - In a few words or less

Seymour FM was originally established as a community broadcasting initiave for Seymour and nearby puckapunyal, back in 2002. In its first attempt to get established, the organisation broadcast under the identity SPI-FM. The coverage was extremely limited, and early broadcasts were of a low standard, and with little guidance, the radio station, in it's first formation, ceased to exist by 2004. However, in 2005 .....

Late 2005, after community consultation and surveys, the new identity for the radio was established, to connect the obvious Seymour name with the FM service and frequency. Seymour FM 87.6 was born. Now in 2009, with a change of management, and a foreward thinking team heading the station, there are great opportunities for Seymour's local station, and we welcome you to be a part of this new direction.

The early studio locations included Station Street, later moving to Anzac Avenue and later to the new location at the former Army Baracks site.

And Now...

With a greater emphasis on community, the new sound of Seymour FM is growing - and is now - more than ever - Your Local Station.

With the move to 103.9, Seymour FM is taking steps for formal recognition of its place as a fully fledged and licenced community radio station. The extended coverage and improved sound quality provides for a region-wide service. Listeners outside Seymour, especially in nearby towns will be able to receive Seymour FM for the first time.

Seymour FM is a not-for-profit community organisation, registered as an incorporated Association, as Seymour Puckapunyal Community Radio Inc.. Membership is open to persons who live in the northern Mitchell Shire, being the section of the Shire north of the Great Dividing Range and parts of the Strathbogie Shire
