NEED FOR MEALS ON WHEELS VOLUNTEERS
Mitchell Community Health Service (MCHS) is seeking Volunteers to deliver Meals on Wheels at lunch time in Seymour, Kilmore and Broadford. MCHS delivers up to 400 meals each week to people who are frail aged and to younger people who have a disability.
Volunteers play an essential part in the work we do at Mitchell Community Health Service. Participating in the Meals on Wheels program offers many opportunities for those who want to get involved in the community by helping the aged stay independent. Delivering meals can take as little time as 1.5 hours per month.
Interested prospective volunteers will need to undergo a National Police Check (organised by MCHS), have a current Driver’s Licence and they will be required to drive their own vehicle as part of their volunteer duties.
If you are interested in volunteering for the Meals on Wheels program please ring Ms Michelle Gibbs at MCHS on 5784 5555.
Additional volunteer assistance is always welcome for people to help with office administration, or with other activities such as the Sunshine Club and the Wanderers’ Group which operate in Wallan.
If you are interested in volunteering in one of these capacities please ring Denis Belleville, Human Resources Officer at MCHS on 5784 5555.

FREE GREENWASTE DISPOSAL EXTENSION
Due to growing concern after ongoing weather conditions encouraging plant growth all Mitchell Shire Council Transfer Stations will be accepting properly sorted, non commercial loads of greenwaste free of charge for the additional month of December.
Green waste consisting of natural woods and timbers will need to be separated from nongreenwaste items before arrival at the transfer station.
Residents are encouraged to load their trailers in a manner that ensures that rubbish, metal, CCA treated timber, particle board, and pest plants such as
thistles, gorse, blackberry and other pest species do not contaminate the greenwaste collection area.
Rubbish, CCA treated timber, particle board and pest plant species will require a tip voucher and are charged by the cubic metre (6x4 trailer loaded 45cm
deep).
For more information regarding transfer station hours of operation or tipping voucher retailers, please contact Council on 5734 6200 or WEBSITE: www.mitchellshire.vic.gov.au.
MITCHELL SHIRE SKILLS-BANK
Volunteer groups throughout Mitchell Shire can now tap into a powerful new
service that can optimise their organisation’s resources and the skills of their
volunteers. The Mitchell Community Skillsbank is a central database that links
local volunteers and volunteer groups with the opportunities and information
that can help them maximise their potential.
Skillsbank’s centralised database will make it easy for volunteers and
community organisations to recruit and manage volunteers, keep up to date
with news and training as well as improve the experience of volunteering in
Mitchell Shire. Each organisation and volunteer are able to control their
personal information and keep it updated. Mitchell Community Skillsbank will
run matches for volunteering opportunities with volunteers that are registered
within the database based on their availability, skills, knowledge and
experience.
Further information is available by contacting Renita Blaney,
Volunteer Development Officer, 5734 6338
